A key feature of the WellingtonNZ.com site is the ease and speed of which one can access information.
This is due largely to a simple navigation system and site structure and, the use of ASP (active server pages) interfacing with an information database. Images too, have been kept small and consequently, load very quickly. Also, their subject matter and captions always complement the information on the page. The presentation of information has been carefully thought out hence, the inclusion of pages specifically for the travel trade and media. The travel trade page especially, seemed very useful, with links to sample iteneraries and a "market support" order form for requesting brochures/promotional material. The media page, although it also provides itineraries, is not quite as useful as it does not provide a facility for obtaining press kits, photographic images or any other material to assist travel writers/editors. The page merely mentions contacting the New Zealand Tourism Board for further information but, provides no contact details. Whilst the site's database works seamlessly there are one or two areas where it could be better implemented. The events section is one example. Many visitors like to browse events since they don't always know what they are looking for. The database however, only enables them to search for events or, call up all events in an unstructured list. This is not too much of a problem since there are only 128 events currently listed but, it could become problematic as this list grows. The event information was however, very thorough, and included entry charges for paid events. The database of accommodation and activity providers was also easy to use. Overall, this is an excellent regional site which makes accessing information on the Wellington region easy and fast. Future additions might include a photo gallery with larger and more varied images and a browsable events database. |
