Information! This site has plenty of it and, it's easy to get at.
This is Web 101 but there are still many site administrators/developers who seem to forget it. Java applets, flash intros, floating navigation palettes, image rollovers etc, are all fine providing, they don't interfere with the visitors reason for being at the site in the first place. To access information! And what information! As well as details of Horizon's very comprehensive range of products including coach tours, self drive vacations, train travel, accommodation passes etc, there's driving distances, exchange rates, and details of New Zealand's climate, population, customs and more. To avoid the pages being too "texty", the copy is interspersed with enlargable image previews relevant to the subject matter. You can even click on an icon for a printer friendly version of the page which omits the images to ensure fast and, trouble free printing. Gripes? No, not any serious ones anyway. The left hand navigation menu (with its pop-up menus) jumped to the right during mouse-overs when using a Macintosh version of Explorer but, this didn't hamper viewing too much. Also, it was pointed out that one got the feeling he/she would be able to book online however, the "Bookings and Enquiries" page only gave addresses and email addresses of agents. Perhaps an online form, (which could be referred to the nearest agent for follow up) might provide the visitor with a more personal experience. As usual with WETA winners, any niggles were only small and, possibly a matter of personal preference. This is a great site which satisfies the visitor's every need for information.
