The Activities and Attractions Award for August goes to...
Forest Fungi of New Zealand
Forest Fungi of New Zealand
Our judges liked almost everything about this website; the dark colours (of course!) and 3D type which help reinforce the site's theme, the vast amount of information with excellent explanation of scientific terminology, good instructions and "how to guides", and, not least, the wonderful photography.

The "How to make a Spore Print" and "Hatching Eggs" sections were easy to follow although, I'm not too sure who would want to hatch a "Stink Horn" (a fungi containing olive green smelly slime which attracts flies and slugs!).

A simple, but, really clever idea was the glossary. Just click an any word which is in yellow (usually the scientific name for a fungus) and an explanation or description will appear in the lower left frame.

As well as providing related links at the bottom of some pages, a seperate links page provides a well researched list of online resources and books on similar subject matter.

Whilst the idea of studying fungi might not appeal to all, this site will no doubt delight the many who are interested in this topic including those who are about to arrive on our shores.
