New Zealand Weta Awards

Who is eligible to enter? Any site which promotes New Zealand or an aspect of New Zealand of interest to intended visitors is eligible for a New Zealand WETA (Web Site of Excellence in Tourism Award).

Do I have to be a tour operator or accommodation provider? No, you could be a retailer or manufacturer promoting New Zealand products, a language school, an education and/or training organisation or almost any other type of business. What matters is that your site promotes in some way what is unique about New Zealand and your product or service.

What are the criteria on which the site will be judged? These are not awards for web design. Whilst design is an extremely important aspect of any web site, the New Zealand WETA awards are about the overall value of your site to visitors to New Zealand. The main criteria on which a site will be judged are:-

Does your site tell the visitor all they need to know about your product or service?
Have you considered all of the visitor's needs?
Do you provide pictures or illustrations of your product or service?
If your service is of a geographic nature do you provide maps?
Do you link to other sites for further information you cannot provide e.g. weather forecasts, detailed regional information, daily exchange rates.

Uniqueness:

Is there anything unique about your site?
How does it differ from other sites offering a similar product or service?
Is your product or service unique?

User friendliness:

Can visitors easily find all of the information they require?
Are your contact details easy to find?
Have you included email gateways, online or printable enquiry forms?
Can visitors purchase your product service online? Does your site have e-commerce functionality?
Is the language plain and simple? Have you avoided colloquialisms or words with different meanings to other nationalities (e.g. Hiking instead of Tramping)?

How often are the WETA's awarded? WETA's are awarded just once a month. In each category, only one site will be chosen to receive a WETA Award. This award truly represents the ultimate recognition of your site's excellence.

How often can I enter? You only need to enter your site once. It will remain entered in the awards even if not chosen for the next month's award. You may wish to re-enter however, if you have made significant changes to your site since it was first entered.
When should I enter? You can enter the WETA Awards at any time however, entries must be received by the 15th of the month prior, to be eligible for the next months awards. Entries received after 15th of each month will still be entered into consecutive months' awards.
