New Zealand Weta Awards - About the New Zealand Weta Awards

The New Zealand WETA (Web Site of Excellence in Tourism) Awards have been established to highlight the efforts of the many organisations who have effectively utilised the Internet to promote their tourism product and New Zealand tourism.

The awards are sponsored by Discover New Zealand, a company which is dedicated to the promotion of New Zealand tourism. Discover New Zealand has been promoting New Zealand on the World Wide Web since the launch of its Discover New Zealand website in July 1995. The company also produce hard-copy magazines about New Zealand, its regions, activities and interests, which are available throughout the world.

By sponsoring these awards Discover New Zealand hopes to raise awareness of New Zealand tourism and encourage those operating within New Zealand's tourism industry to utilise the Internet to effectively promote their business and at the same time, promote travel to and within New Zealand.

We firmly believe that over the next few years the Internet will become the most utilised means of accessing travel and tourism information. Not only will it be a source of information but a convenient means to purchase travel, whether it be airline tickets, vehicle rental, accommodation or tours and activities.

In order to benefit from the growth of the internet, New Zealand needs to ensure that its offerings on the World Wide Web meet or exceed the standards of other destinations. Our Web Sites and the tourism product they represent must be unique, varied and of an extremely high standard. Hopefully, the New Zealand WETA Awards will help us achieve this.
